James McDonald Named Executive Sales Director of Metro Philadelphia Newspaper

PHILADELPHIA -- Metro US today announced that James McDonald has been named Executive Sales Director of Metro Philadelphia, the leading newspaper in Philadelphia. He will be responsible for managing sales efforts - driving sales and developing business opportunities through Metro properties.

"Jim's terrific track record both driving sales growth and successfully building media brands makes him an ideal choice to lead us in this important market," said Yggers Mortensen, Publisher of Metro US.

"I recognize Metro as the future of newspapers, emphasized through its leading market position," says McDonald. "The vision is to maintain this strength and we will do so by driving the best results for our clients through new and creative opportunities."

McDonald joins Metro from a Group Publisher role for Quadra Media, owner of Surface, Inked, and Tokion Magazines. Following a term as Vice President of Corporate Sales and development for PV Media Group, McDonald led the Philadelphia-based M6 Media consulting firm, which he started in 2005.

In 2004-05, McDonald served as president/publisher of Newsco, a holding company for Suburban Richmond Newspapers, Journal Newspapers and Suburban Washington Newspapers where he successfully restructured the business into individual operating units prior to spearheading their individual sales. As part of McDonald's strategy, Anshutz Investments' Clarity Media Group acquired and re-launched Journal Newspapers as the Washington Examiner, a free 260,000-circulation daily newspaper, allowing the new owner to build out a national network with Examiner newspapers and websites.

Prior to Newsco, McDonald drove the growth of Metro Philadelphia at a time when it had just launched in the market, nearly tripling sales and facilitating new partnerships for Metro in North America.
