Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP is pleased to announce that E. Chaney Hall is the recipient of the 2011 David B. Brown Pro Bono Award. The award is given annually to a firm member who demonstrates a commitment to ensuring access to legal service for those in need. Hall is receiving the award in recognition of her involvement on behalf of the Harriett Tubman Safe, which operates a house where registered sex offenders are living. It was forced to close after a school opened nearby.

Hall, an associate in Potter Anderson's business and commercial litigation practice, took the initiative to reach out to an individual in the community who had filed a pro se complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. In the latest development, a suit has been filed with the Superior Court questioning the construction and constitutionality of the statute requiring the residents to move.

The firm established the David B. Brown Pro Bono Award in 2010 upon the retirement of David Brown, a Potter Anderson partner long recognized for providing legal services pro bono to indigent Delawareans with legal problems. He is a co-founder of Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, Inc. (DVLS), served as the organization's president for 12 years and continues to serve on its board of directors.
