The Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation Appoints Joseph P. Onorato as VP and Controller of Finance

Philadelphia, PA. - The Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation (PWDC), the City's lead workforce development agency, announced today that Joseph P. Onorato has been appointed vice president and controller of finance. In this position Onorato will be responsible for managing the functions and staff of the general accounting, payroll, and contract departments. Onorato assumes his new role on March 1, 2011 and will work with PWDC's chief financial officer to implement the financial goals of the organization. PWDC serves as the City's fiscal agent for approximately $120 million in annual federal and state employment and training funding and is the largest single entity in the City's workforce development system.

"I'm delighted that Joseph is bringing his wealth of non-profit financial and managerial experience to PWDC," said Mark Edwards, President and CEO of PWDC. "I've long been impressed with his skills and commitment to service in the non-profit world. He'll add an exceptional level of expertise to our operations and help ensure that we manage our financial resources astutely, particularly in this time of fiscal constraint."

In his previous role Onorato served as chief financial officer for People's Emergency Center and supervised all financial, accounting, human resource and property management activities. He has almost thirty years of experience in the non-profit sector, including in addition to People's Emergency Center, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Lutheran Home at Germantown, and St. Agnes Medical Center, all in Philadelphia.

Onorato holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from LaSalle University.
